Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. (KJV)
I think both man/woman and God were not ever meant to be mutually exclusive or independent of each other. I think in Proverbs 20:27, the writer was conveying a message that man/woman and God is a partnership where a man/woman is always dependent on the wisdom and calling of God.
A knowledgeable and logical person will see that as a weakness. How can a man/woman, the superior creation in the animal kingdom be subjected to a infinite partnership with an ethereal God (one that cannot be seen)?
I think if we pause for a moment and evaluate ourselves when we are at the lowest point in our lives, we will come across that void. And it is there where Proverbs 20:27 will make sense to us. If it doesn’t make sense now, maybe one day it will and I hope it will someday.
